It's Been Awhile

Last week was such a blur. Monday we moved myself into Chris' apartment. (Hi Mom! Glad you know now...hehehe) Matt came and helped us out using his truck to load the larger items. Chris and I filled our cars with boxes and it only took one trip. Chris took Matt out for dinner to thank him while I spent time organizing the place since the next day we were picking up Chris' cousin Travis and he was going to stay for a few days. We drove to Calgary tuesday night to the airport and didn't get home until almost 2AM. Wednesday was a long day as I play pool every Wed night in a league. Thursday I had gossip and wine night at my girlfriend Rhianna's, and then spent Friday night in.
Saturday Chris and Travis decided they wanted to wander the mall and I decided to tag along. Chris ended up buying me my own Oilers t-shirt (#44 - Souray - I think he's cute..haha) and then SPOILED me big time by buying part of my Christmas present early - a sweet Solomon snowboard jacket! I also finally got a helmet (thanks matt) that was supposed to be an old Christmas gift. Later on Chris took me out for dinner to the new Moxies and it was probably the best dinner I have ever had! I have been to Moxies plenty, but the new Moxies is GORGEOUS, and the food was amazing. I had the Chicken Marsala and Chris had the salmon. I DEFINATELY encourage you to go...it was awesome. Later on that night was my friend Jodi's birthday. Her boyfriend and family rented a hall for her 30th bday and everyone showed up. I'm thinkin she had a great time! :)

Rhianna, Jodi, Tracy, Me, Char and Char's lucky husband Mitch!

Sunday, Chris and I spent a well deserved break at home doing nothing but sitting in our PJ's watching cartoons and eating brunch. Later on in the evening we went to Chris' mom's for some lasagna and laundry...hehehe.

This week I have been busy at it at The Christian Credit Union. I have SO much to learn. But it will all be worthwhile! :) This weekend we are thinking of heading to Calgary for our monthly outing of sushi and shopping. Need some more snazzy work outfits!

Happy Tuesday!

It was GREATLY appreciated since Chris and I were just talking yesterday about having a muchly needed date night. This will help immensely!

New New New

So last Tuesday I made it official. I am quitting my job and becoming a dance instructor on a cruiseline. No. No that is not true. Only half true. I am becoming a dance instructor on the weekends. No, that's not right either. I am quitting my job. Why? Because its the best thing for me to do.

When I was offered a position with RBC DS, I was told I would be working for two financial advisors, eventually having the opportunity to earn commissions. Well, first, the one guy I worked for decided to retire, and the other doesn't really know how to use an assistant since he hasn't really had one before, and likes to do everything himself. When the receptionist left, I kind of threw myself into that roll in order to keep myself a little busier. It helped, for awhile. I greet clients each and every day, assisted them with their accounts and did anything I could to help. Which is something I love doing.

Then one day a client came in after her husband had passed away. She need to settle his estate and wanted to do it quickly. I told her everything I needed her to bring to a meeting with the advisor and booked an appt later on in the week. When she came back, the advisor was unable to meet with her, and I ended up helping her. I answered all her questions, had all the documents I needed signed, and was preparing to waive probate on her husband's estate. (Which is quite the process, but worth it in order for the client to save lawyer's fees). She was ecstatic with the way I had dealt with her situation and told me she was grateful for how knowledgeable and personable I was while dealing with her. I think that was probably the best day for me for working at RBC.

Basically, I KNOW I can do much more than what I was offered here and what I was "allowed" to do. (I am as an assistant ALLOWED to do these things, but was rarely given the opportunity).  I realize the advisors have credentials behind their name, but as an assistant I do have the ability to assist in ways like I mentioned which ultimately at the end of the day, make a huge difference.

I am moving on to a Credit Union, where I will hold the title of Loans Administrator to learn the ropes behind mortgage lending and personal and commercial loans. This will give me the opportunity to become an officer, and possibly use my skills I've learned in the investment industry to head that way in time as well. I am so excited to start my new journey which I think will improve my overall life immensely.

I have also renewed my gym membership and have starting committing myself to the gym. I plan to go at LEAST 4 times a week if not more. I have gone yesterday, and going today after work. :) My basic regime is 20 minutes on the treadmill, 20 minutes on the bike (Yesterday I was working out next to Ron Sutter...who was biking like an olympic athlete...I was like....DAAAAAAMN Ron, for an oldie you sure can move!!) It kind of motivated me a little...haha. I then go on a eliptical/ski type thingy (yes my equipment knowledge is AMAZING) for another 20 min. After I get the courage to go down to the mats where guys are doing handstand push-ups (like shown) and other guys and girls are doing mega ab work-outs, I take a small medicine ball and to side to side rotations for my stomach, along with a machine that works on my obliques (AKA BACK FAT). I never knew how much it would make a difference bringing my IPOD along...but its much easier to jam along to tunes...time goes by much quicker.

So here's to the new job and the new BOD!

Oink

Yesterday after work I went with Chris to the doctor's office since he's had a bad cold for just over a week. His cough has gotten really bad and he has been really plugged up. I was sick a week prior to him getting sick, and it's still slightly lingering. Chris went in and coughed and was immediately given a mask to wear, to match the other handful of people wearing them. It was strange to see since previously I thought it was silly seeing in the news how in Japan and other countries people were wearing masks on a daily basis. Obviously since this new strain of the flu is going around, it makes sense to have masks in the doctors office where everyone is sick. It made me think of the new H1N1 flu-shot and whether or not I should take it. I have read a number of blogs that have this as a main discussion, like Linda's, and there is quite a bit of insightful, interesting and differing opinions in her comments on the subject.
Basically, from what I know, the shot is available to everyone who wishes to receive it, along with the regular flu shot, but it is recommended for the elderly, women between the ages of 18-24, and children. More emphasis on those who have asthma, or any other type of respiratory illnesses.

Alot of people have been worrying about the time frame it took to create the H1N1 vaccine and the limited testing that was done for it. I found out by reading the blog I linked to above that a commentor stated, " The seasonal flu vaccine is developed new every year, which is why we need one every year, because the expected strains of the virus are different each time. The H1N1 vaccine is developed using exactly the same methods as the seasonal flu vaccine, so even though it seems like it's scary! and new! it is really just like a seasonal flu vaccine for a different strain."

Makes sense to me! I do fall under the category for those who should maybe get the shot, but I don't think I am going to. I have never gotten a regular flu shot, and though I have gotten the flu, I would rather take a kick at the can and hope my body can fight it on it's own.

I think everyone has to do their own research and decide what's best for themselves and their families. What are YOU going to do?

Thanksgiving Weekend

Our cat is a hammerhead...as you can see.....he just decided one day he would hang out for no reason on Chris' head. Dork.

Last week Chris and I had to house-sit for his Mom and Dad. They gave us full reign of the house (including food) haha and it was nice for a change of scenery and pretend like we had a nice house! :) One day maybe! This weekend we crammed in 3 Thanksgiving dinners and a wedding. Saturday night it was my friends Steve and Candace's wedding and they had nearly 300 people there. It was a great night and everyone in my family was there except Ali. The only photo I got was from my phone of Chris and I.

It was also fun to go to a wedding where I am good friends with both the bride AND the groom. (Yes I realize Steve is in mid sentence in this photo but this is the only picture I could find with the three of us!) We ended up making it home around 12:30AM which really is pretty surprising seeing as we really value our sleep and were looking forward to just sleeping and sleeping in. Sunday we went to my Auntie Nancy and Uncle Will's place for dinner at 2:30PM. We hung out until about 4:45 since we had to go eat MORE turkey dinner at 5PM at Chris' grandparents. What a day. Afterwards we joined our friends James and Candace at their place for drinks and guitar hero!

Picture TOTALLY stolen from James' facebook page, but aren't they delightful?!
Monday we vegged and then went to my mom and dad's for yet another Turkey dinner. I AM STILL FULL.
